Kicking Horse Three Sisters Coffee Review
How’s it going? Hope the coffee is flowing! In this Kicking Horse Three Sisters Coffee Review, I’m diving into one of the best coffee deals I scored during Amazon Prime Day to see if this unique blend lives up to the hype. Featuring a mix of light, medium, and dark roast beans, this organic coffee promises a complex cup. In this review, I’ll break down the aroma, flavor profile, and how it tastes in both a French Press and pour-over to help you decide if it’s worth adding to your coffee rotation.
The Roaster
Kicking Horse Coffee was founded in 1996 by Elana Rosenfeld and Leo Johnson, who began roasting small batches of coffee in a garage in Invermere, British Columbia. What started as a small operation grew into the largest organic and Fair Trade coffee producer in Canada, as well as one of the most recognizable premium coffee brands across North America. Despite this growth, Kicking Horse still roasts all of its coffee in its original hometown of Invermere.
In 2017, the company was purchased by Lavazza. However, Kicking Horse has maintained its strong commitment to sustainability and ethical sourcing. Their roasting philosophy has remained consistent as well, with a focus on bold blends, especially darker roasts. Three Sisters is a unique combination of light, medium, and dark roasts.
I’ll be totally honest, I bought this because it was $6.39 during Amazon Prime Day. I was specifically searching for deals on premium coffee, and this was easily the best one I found. For 10 oz of organic coffee at that price, it’s hard to pass up.
What really intrigued me, though, was the concept. Kicking Horse Coffee describes Three Sisters as a blend of light, medium, and dark roast beans. You can actually see the three distinct roast levels in the bag, with beans of noticeably different shades. Did that blend create a unique coffee experience? Let’s find out.
When rating coffee I follow the same method of brewing each time. Find out about how I prepare French Press coffee here.

Overall Thoughts
Overall, I really enjoyed this coffee. It was smooth with rich flavors that let the tasting note shine. It is relatively complex, so it may not appeal to a regular coffee drinker, but a coffee enthusiast would surely enjoy it.
- French Press: Smooth and with rich flavors, complex and slightly too tart but still enjoyable.
- Pour-over: Great balance of sweetness and tart fruit, easy to drink.
- Preferred brew method: Pour-over
Surprisingly the French Press brought out more of the fruity notes, with a distinct tartness throughout the start and middle. The pour-over still brought forward a delicious fruitiness, but with more balance from the sweet chocolate.
Where to Purchase
You can purchase Three Sisters on Amazon at a price point of $13.99 for a 10 oz bag (about $22.38 per pound) or from the Kicking Horse website for $16.99 for the same 10 oz bag (about $27.18 per pound). The Amazon price is a solid value for an organic coffee, especially considering that Kicking Horse lab tests their coffee for mold.
Conclusion – Kicking Horse Coffee Three Sisters
This was my first Kicking Horse coffee and I was very impressed. The value, especially with the Prime Day Deal was almost unbeatable, but even at full price this is a delicious and well roasted blend.
