Barracks Baristas Hero’s Brew Review

A simple bag packing anything but simple coffee!

How’s it going? Hope the coffee is flowing! This week’s coffee review will be another vendor from the Pennsylvania Chocolate and Coffee festival (read my review of the event here). However, the review will be done about their coffee I brewed at home. In my French press today I have Barracks Baristas’ Hero’s Brew.

I was able to sample this coffee at the festival and planned to do my review based on that, however I was the lucky winner of their giveaway at the festival. This meant I received 2 pounds of their excellent coffee, so I was able to get a pound of the Hero’s Brew Colombian roast to review at home.

Barracks Baristas is owned and operated by active duty military members, Jerry and Darrin, who started the company with the goal of creating a community by producing high quality coffee. They are also really good people, who not only are appreciative of their customers but also give back to others, most recently by helping hurricane victims. Is their coffee as great as the people who make it? Let’s find out!

When rating coffee I follow the same method of brewing each time. Find out about how I brew the coffee I rate here.

Barracks Baristas Hero’s Blend Review:

Hero’s Blend has a sweet nose with nice brown-sugar like sweetness. It has a light body and is super smooth with a slight acidity that contributes well to the flavor profile. The coffee starts with subtle cherry notes, balancing a very mild sweetness with just a touch of tartness. These cherry notes get stronger in the middle with a good fruity flavor. The tartness of the cherry fades in the finish, but does not completely go away. The brown sugar from the nose starts to come through without overpowering the cherry, giving the coffee a fruity and semisweet ending.

Overall I found this to be a great Colombian blend. It is well-balanced and easy to drink. The nose is a bit deceiving as the coffee was not quite as sweet as the nose would lead you to believe. I really enjoyed the fruity notes in this one and the sweetness in the finish makes for a great ending.

You can find Hero’s Blend along with all of the other coffee that Barracks Baristas offers on their website. I also have a bag of their American Valor that I will be reviewing in the near future, so stay tuned for that!
