How’s it going! Hope the coffee is flowing. Today I’m going to be talking about one of the bags of coffee I picked up at the Pennsylvania Chocolate and Coffee Festival (read my review of the event here).
While I tried to visit as many tables as possible, there was no way in 1 day I could hit every booth and get the full experience for each coffee. This meant that unless I already researched a vendor, they really needed to catch my eye. One such vendor was El Viajero, who had the coolest artwork I’ve ever seen on coffee bags. After sampling their coffee I knew I wanted to take a bag home, so I picked out a bag of their Taza de Oro and today that’s exactly what I have in my French Press!
When rating coffee I follow the same method of brewing each time. Find out about how I brew the coffee I rate here.
El Viajero’s Taza de Oro coffee review:
Taza de Oro, which translates to “Cup of Gold”, has a rich and sugary sweet nose. It is a light bodied coffee, with anything but light flavor. The coffee has a bold citrusy front that is slightly acidic. These citrus notes give way to a mild floral middle with a hint of orange. There is bold orange citrusy finish and the sweetness from the nose shows through here.
Overall I found this to be a really good up of coffee, which you probably guessed by the fact that I bought a bag! The flavor profile was on the complex side and not as sweet as I anticipated based on the nose. This was not a problem at all as the coffee was still delicious and refreshing. This coffee would certainly appeal to those who like citrusy coffees, but for people preferring a simple cup, this might not be the best option for you.
You can check out El Viajero’s full lineup on their website. It is worth checking out just to see the incredible artwork, all of which is drawn by the owner. While you’re there you can also pick up a t-shirt or hoodie with your favorite design. El Viajero’s coffee isn’t just smoke and mirrors with cool designs, it is also high quality coffee with a focus on ethical, sustainable, and natural sourcing. You can pick up a pound of Taza de Oro for $19.99 at the El Viajero website. El Viajero also donates a portion of all proceeds to causes supporting veterans, so you can support a great coffee roaster and causes with your purchase!
