One Village Legend Coffee Review

Back at it again with another One Village coffee!

How’s it going? Hope the coffee is flowing! Today I am going to be talking about a coffee from one of my all time favorite roasters. In my French Press today I have One Village Coffee’s Legend Roast

I was surprised when I realized I have not reviewed anything from One Village in nearly a year, so when I saw they were marked down to $9.99 for 12oz ($13.32 per pound) I figured it was about time to grab a new coffee to review. After having their Villager and Artist roasts, which you can find my reviews to linked below, it only seemed right to go with a dark roast for my third One Village review. As some of you may recall, Villager is my current favorite daily drinker, so let’s find out if Legend can give it a run for its money!

When rating coffee I follow the same method of brewing each time. Find out about how I prepare the coffee I rate here.

One Village Legend Organic coffee review:

Legend has a deep bakers chocolate-like fragrance when ground. It is cocoa focused without much sweetness. As it brews there is a dark sugar aroma giving notes of molasses. This is not overly sweet but a touch of sweetness does come through. The body of this roast is full and very bold, this is a heavy coffee with plenty of mouthfeel.

The coffee starts with that cocoa forward fragrance coming forward in the taste. It is a deep dark chocolate front with just the slightest touch of sweetness. This gives way to a middle that is somewhere in the middle between roasty and smoky. These smoky notes take the focus in the finish with a fantastic smoky ending that is well executed without any over roasted bitterness being present.

Overall, this is a bold and coffee forward coffee, it certainly lives up to One Village’s claim of it being intense. The flavor profile brings deep cacao notes along with some roastiness and a strong but well executed smokiness. It is a very smooth coffee that I really enjoyed drinking, but despite this smoothness that flavor profile is unlikely to appeal to most casual drinkers. Legend really shows off One Village’s range and talents as a roaster though, and is a coffee that more nuanced coffee drinkers would appreciate.

While Legend did not dethrone Villager (a tough ask) it is another high quality offering from One Village. You can find it on the One Village website along with their other offerings. It is worth noting that their pricing on their website is significantly higher than in stores, with prices on their website ranging from $14-$18.50 for 12oz, whereas you can find it for $12 per 12 oz at Wegmans and other grocery stores. Landis usually has it on sale 2 bags for $20 and as I mentioned above it is currently $9.99 at Wegmans.
