How’s it going? Hope the coffee is flowing! Today, I’m bringing you the second of three coffee reviews this week. As I continue my dive into a trio of coffees called the Foundations Series by One Village Coffee. In my French Press today I have their Restore Blend.
The Roaster
Based in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, One Village Coffee is a roaster dedicated to making a positive impact on coffee farmers, roasters, and drinkers. They achieve this by ensuring fair value for the farms they source from and by donating 1% of their sales to coffee-related environmental charities. They also happen to be one of my favorite coffee roasters.
The Foundations Series
The Foundations Series is one of three coffee collections created by One Village. Serving as their entry-level lineup, it’s designed to introduce coffee drinkers to sustainable, high-quality coffee at a fair price point. The series includes three coffees: Daybreak, Restore, and Embolden. Today’s focus is on Restore—the medium roast offering.
While I prefer One Village’s light roasts, like Villager and their Ethiopia Natural, the only medium roast I’ve had from them, Artist, was also a delicious coffee. So let’s find out where Restore falls in this list.
When rating coffee I follow the same method of brewing each time. Find out about how I prepare the coffee I rate here.
One Village Restore Blend Review
Aroma and Body
When ground, Restore has a deep, roasty fragrance with a subtle note of dark chocolate that leans more toward cacao than sweetness. Brewing brings out a subtle sweetness from the chocolate, complemented by almond-like nutty notes. I found this coffee to be quite heavy for a medium roast, with a medium-full body and a noticeable weight and mouthfeel.
Flavor Profile and Qualities
Similar to its fragrance, this coffee opens with bold, roasty notes—rich and distinctly coffee-forward. It then settles into a semi-sweet, chocolatey middle, reminiscent of good dark chocolate. The finish carries strong dark chocolate notes with a subtle hint of almond-like nuttiness
Overall Thoughts
Overall, this coffee could have easily fooled me into thinking it was a dark roast. It was bold and rich, yet very smooth, with a flavor profile that was chocolatey, nutty, and roasty. There was no noticeable acidity or tartness, and it lacked the pronounced sweetness that many medium roasts typically have. It was a delicious cup, just a very unique take on a medium roast. For those looking for a traditional medium roast, this may not be the coffee for you. But for coffee drinkers who don’t have a preference, or prefer dark roasts, Restore is something you’ll certainly enjoy. It would also be a great introduction to those looking to expand their palates.
Where to Purchase
You can purchase Restore from the One Village website individually or as a part of the Foundations Series bundle. Priced at $14 for a 12 oz bag (about $18.67 per pound) individually, or $40 for 36 oz (about $17.78 per pound) when bundled, Restore—and the other Foundations offerings—represent a fair price for premium, freshly roasted coffee.
