How’s it going? Hope the coffee is flowing! Today I am bringing you another canned nitro cold brew review. It’s surprising that it took me this long to get to this particular coffee, as it’s the prepackaged coffee I drink most often, but I had held off on reviewing it to experience new coffees. Today in my glass I have a can of Rise Brewing Company Black Nitro Cold Brew.
Rise Brewing Company is another brand that exclusively offers prepackaged coffee in cans. While the coffee itself is great, more on that later, the reason I drink these the most is the price. Rise’s canned coffees are almost always included as part of the deals offered on Ibotta. If you are not familiar with Ibotta it’s essentially a coupon app where you pick items before a shopping trip and then get reimbursed for them after proving you purchased them. It’s a great app and if you aren’t using it I highly recommend it. Sign up using this referral link and you’ll get a $5 bonus after you submit your first receipt!
Ok, taking my marketing hat off and putting my coffee hat back on, one thing that stands out to me when comparing Rise to other canned nitro cold brews is the nitrogen content. If you’ve read my High Brew Nitro Cold Brew review you’ll know that some companies take a unique approach to nitro cold brew. Rise does not, similar to a can of soda when you open the can the nitrogen reaction occurs. I am not sure how they do it, but Rise has the best nitrogen reaction of any canned coffee I’ve tried. When you open the can there is a distinct pop and you hear the coffee react.
The difference can also be see in the size of the nitrogen head.
A look at the cold brew just after it was poured
Consistent coupons? Check. Nice creamy nitrogen head? Check. But is the coffee any good? Let’s find out!
Rise Brewing Company Black Nitro Cold Brew review:
Rise’s black nitro cold brew had a nice medium body, always a refreshing experience from a canned coffee. There was a noticeable and great creaminess to the coffee as well. Despite the lack of bells and whistles the nitrogen really makes its presence known here.
At first sip you get nice rich notes of vanilla. There is a very slight bitterness but the sweetness of the coffee makes this less noticeable. The bitterness fades in the middle and the vanilla-like sweetness becomes more present. The coffee finishes with bold vanilla flavors that fade into a slightly cola-like finish.
Overall I find this to be a very refreshing and easy to drink coffee. This is on the sweeter side for a black coffee, even for a cold brew, but it isn’t overly sweet. The vanilla tasting notes are pleasantly bold but not overpowering. The highlight to me is the cola-like finish that adds a little complexity to a vanilla forward coffee.
Rise Brewing Company’s Black Nitro Cold Brew can be found on the Rise website, Amazon, Walmart, and many other online retailers. You can likely find it in your local grocery store as well. Check out the Rise website for their full line of offerings, and stay tuned as we have more reviews to come!
