How’s it going? Hope the coffee is flowing! Today we are going to be talking about a fantastic place I found during a recent trip to Minneapolis called The Roastery.
Whenever I travel, even just to a nearby town, I love to find small coffee shops to try. Huge bonus if they do their own roasting. I had targeted 3 coffee shops when I was planning my trip to Minneapolis, more on the other 2 later, but the one that really drew my interest was The Roastery. Little did I know it wasn’t actually a coffee shop, which was a bit of a surprise especially when desperately looking for a good cup of coffee. What it was turned out to be even better.
I walked in to location and was a bit confused, to my right was a salon and straight ahead a set of steps into a basement. I nearly left, but then noticed a sign on an open door for The Roastery. I didn’t smell any coffee, which had me concerned but proceeded down the steps and down the hall. As I reached the end of the hall I saw sacks of fresh coffee beans, jackpot.
As I entered I was greeted by Jeremy, the friendly and knowledgeable owner of The Roastery. I expressed my confusion as I entered, telling him I thought I was going to a coffee shop. He wittingly responded I found something even better, a coffee roaster. Boy was he right. Jeremy has been in the coffee bean business for over 40 years and was so happy to share his knowledge and passion. He told me about a few of his beans, all freshly roasted that day, and the luck I had because I managed to come the only day his shop is open. He spends the rest of the week roasting and delivering beans.
While I was tempted buy the Kenya AA, as I love a bold coffee with nice wine tones, I decided to try something new and went with his Ethiopian YrgaCheffee. Read about my thoughts on the coffee here.
If you are in the Minneapolis area, I highly recommend you stop in to The Roastery and pay Jeremy a visit. He is a pleasure to speak with and has some awesome varieties of coffee at very fair prices! His coffee can also be purchased on his website. Head over and enjoy some fresh and high quality coffee beans.
