Purity Coffee Sacred Cups Aponte Inga Medium Roast Coffee Review

Photos do not do justice for how cool this bag is.

How’s it going? Hope the coffee is flowing! Today I am going to be talking about one of the cleanest and healthiest coffee brands on the market. In my French Press today I have one of the Sacred Cups coffee’s offered by Purity Coffee, their Aponte Inga Medium Roast.

As you may recall from my Purity Coffee Flow review, all of Purity Coffee’s offerings are third-party tested and certified mold and mycotoxin free. The testing also evaluates the coffee to ensure that it is high in antioxidant content as well. The Sacred Cups coffees follow this same testing process. So, with all of these similarities to Purity, what exactly is Sacred Cups coffee? I am glad you, or I, asked!

Sacred Cups Coffee:

Sacred Cups was started by Purity’s co-founder and is meant to change the way a coffee drinker views their coffee, shifting it from a daily drink habit into a mindful experience leading to reflection and connection. This is achieved by providing exceptional and rare single-origin coffee that (spoiler alert) is too good to just pour in a cup and drink. It is a cup of coffee that you will truly appreciate each sip every single time you have it. Sacred Cups is an attempt to take Purity’s delicious and health focused coffee to the next level by incorporating mental health aspects into the physical health benefits of Purity’s coffee.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on the Sacred Cups Bundle, which is now sold out, but do not fear, both the medium and dark roast are available individually. This review will focus on the medium roast, with the dark roast coming next week. This coffee is sourced from the Aponte Inga indigenous people of Colombia, their story is what makes this such a rare and special coffee. I will never in one blog post be capable of explaining just how unique and awesome the Aponte Inga people are, but this article does an amazing job telling their story. As Purity explains on their website the Aponte Inga use ancient regenerative farming techniques to grow coffee in a way that cultivates an incredible fruit while preserving and respecting their ancient lands. One thing you will notice when reading about, and purchasing (which you totally should do!) the Sacred Cups coffees is that they are not marked as organic, but this is because the tribe does not have the means to certify their product. Rest assured, their techniques satisfy all of the standards of an organic coffee, as Purity has evaluated their standards. Heck, I trust Purity more than the USDA anyway!

The Aponte Inga region is known for its fertile soil that is high in nutrients due to the volcanic ash content. These nutrients already lead to a better coffee, however, Sacred Cups takes this a step further using honey-processing. Honey-processing does not mean literally using honey to process coffee, but instead means that the coffee is processed by first washing the coffee in a traditional way, which removes the skin and pulp, but the sweet and sticky substance (called mucilage) that surrounds the fruit is left on for the drying process. This leads to a sweeter (hence the name honey-processing) and fuller bodied coffee. Is your mouth watering yet? Mine is. So now that we have talked about the origin of the coffee and how it’s sourced and processed, let’s find out just how good this coffee is!

Sacred Cups Coffee Aponte Inga Medium Roast Coffee Review:

The Aponte Inga Medium Roast has a delicious fragrance, grinding this coffee brought out a sweet, dark brown sugary scent with a touch of chocolate, legitimately making me think about a chocolate chip cookie.

Once brewed, the scent remained sweet but the aroma took on more honey-like sugary notes. The coffee had a medium body with a good weight to it, it was certainly not full-bodied, but still had a noticeable weight.

The experience starts with bright raspberry-like fruity notes, giving it a nice tartness with a slight amount of sweetness to balance it out. This tartness completely fades in the middle and the coffee settles into a sweet and roasty flavor with delicious caramel notes. The coffee finishes with a great sweetness that was almost tea-like, giving black tea notes with a fantastic honey-like sweetness.

My gosh, this was a terrific cup of coffee! It maintained a sweetness throughout but balanced with some tart fruitiness to start and a great roastiness in the middle. This is definitely a complex coffee, which given the purpose and story of the coffee, is to be expected and it was flawlessly executed. This is definitely a coffee-drinkers coffee, it is unique and truly special. I think this is a coffee that all coffee lovers out there should try, honestly it is just so good and smooth.

If you want to try this, or any of Purity’s other health focused and delicious coffees check out the Purity website. At $32 for a 12oz bag the Sacred Cups coffees are on the expensive side, but you can use the code COASTERSNCOFFEE20 to get 20% off of your first order. These coffees are well worth the price due to the limited availability and unique experience provided by drinking the coffee.
