Sacred Cups Aponte Inga Medium Roast Review
How’s it going? Hope the coffee is flowing! In this Sacred Cups Aponte Inga Medium Roast Review, I’m diving into one of the most unique and clean coffees on the market from Purity Coffee’s Sacred Cups line. I brewed this single-origin Colombian coffee using both a French Press and a pour-over to compare how each method highlights its complex flavor profile. In this review, I’ll break down aroma, tasting notes, body, finish, and how each brewing method affects the drinking experience.
The Roaster:
As you may recall from my Purity Coffee Flow review, all of Purity Coffee’s offerings are third-party tested and certified mold- and mycotoxin-free, while also being evaluated for high antioxidant content. Sacred Cups follows this same process, but takes things a step further.
About Sacred Cups:
Sacred Cups was created by Purity’s co-founder with the goal of transforming coffee from a daily habit into a mindful experience leading to reflection and connection. This is achieved by providing exceptional and rare single-origin coffee that (spoiler alert) is too good to just pour in a cup and drink. It is a cup of coffee that you will truly appreciate each sip every single time you have it. Sacred Cups is an attempt to take Purity’s delicious and health focused coffee to the next level by incorporating mental health aspects into the physical health benefits of Purity’s coffee.
I was lucky enough to get my hands on the Sacred Cups Bundle, which is now sold out, but do not fear, both the medium and dark roast are available individually. This review will focus on the medium roast, but you can read my Aponte Inga Dark Roast review here. This coffee is sourced from the Aponte Inga indigenous people of Colombia, their story is what makes this such a rare and special coffee.
In a single blog post, I can’t fully explain just how fascinating and awesome the Aponte Inga people are. This article does an amazing job telling their story. As Purity explains on their website, the Aponte Inga use ancient regenerative farming techniques to grow coffee in a way that cultivates an incredible fruit while preserving and respecting their ancient lands.
One thing you will notice when reading about, and purchasing (which you totally should do!) the Sacred Cups coffees is that they are not marked as organic, but this is because the tribe does not have the means to certify their product. Rest assured, their techniques satisfy all of the standards of an organic coffee, as Purity has evaluated their standards. Heck, I trust Purity more than the USDA anyway!
The Aponte Inga region is known for its fertile soil that is high in nutrients due to the volcanic ash content. These nutrients already lead to a better coffee, however, Sacred Cups takes this a step further using honey-processing.
Honey-processing does not mean literally using honey to process coffee, but instead means that the coffee is processed by first washing the coffee in a traditional way, which removes the skin and pulp, but the sweet and sticky substance (called mucilage) that surrounds the fruit is left on for the drying process. This leads to a sweeter (hence the name honey-processing) and fuller bodied coffee. Is your mouth watering yet? Mine is. So now that we have talked about the origin of the coffee and how it’s sourced and processed, let’s find out just how good this coffee is!
When rating coffee I follow the same method of brewing each time. Find out about how I prepare French Press coffee here.

The Aponte Inga Medium Roast has a delicious fragrance, grinding this coffee brought out a sweet, dark brown sugary scent with a touch of chocolate, legitimately making me think about a chocolate chip cookie.

| Body | Medium, noticeable weight | Medium-light, very subtle mouth feel |
| Start | Bright, tart raspberry-like fruit with a subtle sweetness | Chocolate forward, sweet and smooth |

Overall Thoughts
Overall, this coffee was absolutely terrific. The balance of tart fruit and sweet chocolate combined with a unique finish for each brew method made the bold flavors of this stand out.
- French Press: Fruit-forward complexity perfectly balanced with sweetness for a delicious and smooth cup.
- Pour-over: Smooth and chocolatey with a bright pop of fruit in the middle.
- Preferred brew method: French Press
This is a true coffee lovers coffee, it is complex and incredibly well executed without being overwhelming. The fruitiness is balanced with enough chocolatey and sweetness that any coffee drinker would still enjoy it though.
Where to Purchase
You can purchase this coffee directly from the Purity website. At $32.00 for a 12oz bag (about $42.66 per pound) the Sacred Cups coffees are on the expensive side, but you can use the code COASTERSNCOFFEE20 to get 20% off of your first order. The rarity, sourcing, and overall experience justifies the price. Though this is not likely a daily drinker at this price point.
Conclusion – Sacred Cups Aponte Inga Medium Roast Review
This is one of the most unique and thoughtfully crafted coffees I’ve had. It perfectly balances sweetness, fruitiness, and other flavor notes for a complexity that has to be experienced to fully appreciate. Sacred Cups succeeds in its mission with this one, it is definitely a coffee you slow down, sip, and appreciate.
