Caffè Umbria Arco Etrusco Blend Review

The stylish and luxurious looking bag of Arco Etrusco

How’s it going? Hope the coffee is flowing! Today, I’m sharing my thoughts on a coffee a friend brought back from a trip to Washington, and generously let me try before they even had a sip themselves. (Pro tip: get yourself friends like that!) If you read my Caffe D’Arte Velletri review that was one of the coffees from the same trip, along with four bags from Caffé Umbria. This review will be the first of those coffees, in my French Press today I have Caffè Umbria’s Arco Etrusco Blend.

The Roaster

Caffè Umbria was founded by a third-generation Italian coffee roaster after his family moved from Italy to Seattle. The company is known for its blends, aiming to combine the art and science of coffee in every cup. Arco Etrusco is their attempt to create a blend perfect for traditional coffee brewing. It utilizes beans from Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico to achieve this goal. It doesn’t get much more traditional than a French Press, so let’s find out if they hit their mark!

When rating coffee I follow the same method of brewing each time. Find out about how I prepare the coffee I rate here.

Caffè Umbria Arco Etrusco Blend Review:

Aroma and Body

When ground, Arco Etrusco gives off mildy sweet notes with just a touch of smokiness. Brewing the coffee brings out this sweetness more, with notes of chocolate and brown sugar. The coffee has a medium body with a balanced weight and mouth feel.

Flavor Profile and Qualities

Arco Etrusco starts with a coffee-forward flavor, accompanied by a hint of smokiness. This leads into a dark, chocolatey middle with bold cacao notes. The cacao smooths out into a sweet, chocolatey finish, perfectly balancing sweetness and cocoa. It was smooth and easy to drink.

Overall Thoughts

I really enjoyed this coffee. It had bold flavors that were well balanced and executed. Its simpler flavor profile would appeal to traditional coffee drinkers, but it may lack the complexity that more adventurous coffee enthusiasts might seek.

Where to Purchase

You can purchase Arco Etrusco directly from the Caffè Umbria website, it is also available on Amazon. At $16 for 12 ounces (about $21 per pound), it’s on the pricier side, especially for a coffee that isn’t organic or Fair Trade certified. While I definitely enjoyed this blend, I’d recommend opting for an organic coffee at this price point.
