One Village Embolden Blend Review

Last but certainly not least, Embolden Blend

How’s it going? Hope the coffee is flowing! Today, I’m wrapping up the reviews of the Foundations Series by One Village Coffee. If you have not been following along check out my Daybreak Blend Review and Restore Blend Review. In my French Press today I have the third and final coffee in the Foundations Series the Embolden Blend.

The Roaster

Based in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, One Village Coffee is a roaster dedicated to making a positive impact on coffee farmers, roasters, and drinkers. They achieve this by ensuring fair value for the farms they source from and by donating 1% of their sales to coffee-related environmental charities. They also happen to be one of my favorite coffee roasters.

The Foundations Series

The Foundations Series is one of three coffee collections created by One Village. Serving as their entry-level lineup, it’s designed to introduce coffee drinkers to sustainable, high-quality coffee at a fair price point. The series includes three coffees: Daybreak, Restore, and Embolden. Today’s focus is on Embolden—the dark roast offering.

One Village makes excellent coffee, regardless of the roast. However, Legend is one of my favorite dark roasts, so I was excited to get the chance to try another. Let’s see if Embolden can surpass Legend!

When rating coffee I follow the same method of brewing each time. Find out about how I prepare the coffee I rate here.

One Village Embolden Blend Review

Aroma and Body

When ground, Embolden has a bold, coffee-forward roastiness with just a hint of baker’s chocolate. Brewing the coffee brings out subtle cinnamon-like notes, balancing sweetness and spice, along with the faintest hint of cream. It has a medium body and I found it surprisingly light for a dark roast, lacking the weight and mouthfeel I was expecting.

Flavor Profile and Qualities

What this coffee lacked in body, it made up for with a bold, roasty start, featuring notes of cocoa and a touch of sweetness. This settled into a baker’s chocolate-like middle, with a notable roastiness and bitterness. Don’t let that deter you—it was smooth and delicious, not unpleasant. The coffee finishes with spicy, clove-like notes and a subtle sweetness that balances the finish.

Overall Thoughts

Overall I really enjoyed this coffee. It was deep and rich with bold flavors, but still smooth. The flavor profile was not overly complex, though the spicy notes at the end were a great touch. It’s a pretty coffee-forward blend and I think this would appeal to most coffee drinkers. Embolden is an excellent dark roast, but I still prefer Legend.

Where to Purchase

You can purchase Embolden from the One Village website individually or as a part of the Foundations Series bundle. Priced at $14 for a 12 oz bag (about $18.67 per pound) individually, or $40 for 36 oz (about $17.78 per pound) when bundled, Embolden—and the other Foundations offerings—represent a fair price for premium, freshly roasted coffee.

That concludes this special three-part review! Each offering in the Foundations Series impressed me with its high quality and delicious flavor profiles. It’s hard to choose a favorite, but if I had to rank them, Daybreak stood out as my top pick, followed by Embolden, and then Restore. All three brought something unique to the table, making the entire series a joy to explore.
