Aroma and Body
When ground, Ease has a dark chocolatey fragrance with the subtlest hint of sweet spice—almost clove-like. Brewing the coffee enhances that spiciness and introduces a touch of sweetness to the aroma, beautifully balancing the dark chocolate notes with the clove. The coffee has a noticeable weight; it’s not quite full-bodied but leans toward a rich, medium-full body.
Flavor Profile and Qualities
The cup begins with bold, baker’s chocolate-like notes, offering a well-balanced start with a touch of bitterness without being unpleasant. The flavor shifts dramatically in the middle, giving way to a dark, sugar-like sweetness. This sweetness is subtle, more reminiscent of molasses than sugar, and it retains a hint of bitterness. The spicy notes from the aroma return in the finish, with a delicious clove-like flavor that strikes a fantastic balance between sweetness and bitterness.
Overall Thoughts
Overall, this was a really enjoyable cup of coffee. It’s fairly complex for a dark roast, with distinct tasting notes that evolve throughout the cup, yet work well together to create a smooth, delicious coffee. While it may be a bit too complex for the average coffee drinker, the dark chocolate and subtle sweetness offer enough familiar dark roast characteristics to give it broad appeal.
