How’s it going? Hope the coffee is flowing! Today, I’m going to be reviewing another organic coffee that I think offers great value. Coming in at $18.99 for 24 oz, it’s hard to beat, especially for an organic coffee. And the coffee I’m reviewing today does exactly that! In my French Press today I have Thrive’s Organic French Roast Coffee.
The Roaster
Thrive Market is an online grocery store focused on healthy, organic, and allergy-friendly foods. While their prices are often lower than what you’d find in stores, that’s not always the case, but many of their Thrive brand products offer solid value and have become staples in our pantry.
You can check them out here. If you like what you see use this referral link to sign up and get 40% off your first order!
The other great thing about Thrive’s organic coffee is that it’s roasted in house! Making them one of the few grocery retailers who also roast their own beans. Now let’s find out if that freshly roasted coffee makes a delicious cup!
When rating coffee I follow the same method of brewing each time. Find out about how I prepare the coffee I rate here.
Thrive Organic French Roast Coffee Review:
Aroma and Body
When ground, Thrive’s French Roast releases a deep, dark, roasty fragrance with a hint of tart stone fruit. Brewing the coffee brings about a rich and slightly sweet roasty aroma. While it doesn’t have a heavy body typical of some dark roasts, it still lands comfortably in the medium-bodied range.
Flavor Profile and Qualities
Thrive’s French Roast opens with a bold, coffee-forward profile that lets the roasty notes shine. A subtle hint of cherry adds just a touch of tartness, similar to the stone fruit notes found in the fragrance. The middle has a great fruity punch, the cherry really starts to stand out here. The finish is smooth and well-balanced, with mild dark chocolate pairing with the cherry to create a satisfying semi-sweet and fruity close.
Overall Thoughts
Overall, I really enjoyed this coffee. Its flavor profile is pretty traditional for a dark roast, emphasizing roasty notes and dark chocolate. However, the cherry adds a welcomed layer of complexity, gradually building throughout the cup before tapering off in the finish. It’s a subtle touch that improves the overall experience and gives the coffee a more nuanced character. As much as I enjoy their Breakfast Blend, I actually prefer the French Roast.
Where to Buy
One drawback to Thrive coffee is that it’s only available through their website and requires an active Thrive Market membership. If you’re a member, you can find their French Roast here. You can also browse the full selection of coffees and other products directly on their website.
