Bro Bears Drive-Thru Coffee Shop Review

How’s it going? Hope the coffee is flowing! If you’re looking for a detailed Bro Bears Drive-Thru Coffee Shop Review, you’re in the right place. Located in Winchester, Virginia, Bro Bears is a unique drive-thru coffee shop known for its high-quality drinks, strong espresso options, and friendly service. From a solid Americano to an exceptional cold brew and their intense Nutty Bro-Fessor, this coffee shop offers something for both casual drinkers and serious coffee enthusiasts. In this review, I’ll break down the flavors, quality, and overall experience to help you decide if Bro Bears is worth a visit.

The Cafe

Bro Bears Drive-Thru Coffee is a unique cafe located at 1141 Berryville Avenue in Winchester, Virginia. Founded in 2018 by Jenise and Gregory Hubert, with the mission of creating a coffee shop with the primary focus being connecting with their customer base. Bro Bears does this by requiring all orders to be placed face-to-face at the drive-through or walk-up window. There is no intercom system to order through, ensuring that customers and employees always experience a strong connection. This mission is further driven by the exceptionally friendly staff. The facility does not allow customers inside, instead only operating as a walk-up or drive-through window.

Despite the small size, Bro Bears has a large menu featuring signature drinks, classics most customers would recognize, as well as cold brew and snacks. Despite me arriving a minute after closing, the staff could not be more courteous in talking about the drink and snack options.

The Drinks

On this visit, I had the chance to try an Americano, a cold brew, a specialty drink called the Nutty Professor, and even a keto-friendly treat. A solid mix of traditional coffee and more creative offerings, which always makes for a fun tasting experience.

Bro Bears Americano Review:

Hot Americano in a to-go cup, sorry I ate the chocolate covered coffee bean before taking the photo.

Bro Bear’s Americano starts off with a great touch, a chocolate covered coffee bean on the lid. It was delicious, but also prevented me from getting the aroma of the drink as it just smelled like chocolate. No complaints here though, I think more shops should do this. Though I love chocolate covered coffee beans, so I may be biased.

The body was a pleasant surprise, as it had a medium body with a moderate weight and mouthfeel. Most Americanos tend to be overly watery, but this one was not.

The drink has a subtle roasty start with relatively reserved flavors before transitioning to a great dark chocolatey middle with well balanced notes of cacao and sweetness. The finish brought back the roasty notes, but did not have strong flavors that stood out.

Characteristics and Flavor Profile:

  • Body: Medium body, moderate weight and mouthfeel
  • Start: Roasty, coffee forward with reserved flavors
  • Middle: Strong dark chocolatey notes with a balance of cacao and sweetness
  • Finish: Mild flavors, subtle roasty notes
  • Sweetness: Medium-low
  • Would I Order Again: Maybe, though I would likely ask for another shot

Overall Thoughts:

This was a solid Americano. The flavor notes were stronger than most others I have tried, but it still did not deliver the bold flavors that I prefer in an Americano.

Bro Bears Cold Brew Review:

The cold brew was so good I finished it before I remembered to take a photo!

If you’ve read my previous coffee shop reviews, such as Southern Ground or Empower on Haven, then you knew a cold brew review was coming.

I told the manager who took my order that I was a bit of a cold brew snob and he let me know they had one of the best cold brews in the business. That’s a lot of pressure on a drink, but let’s see how it held up to those expectations.

This cold brew had a roasty aroma balanced by notes of sweet chocolate, giving it a rich first impression. The body was medium-light with a subtle weight and mouthfeel.

The cup had a unique start for a cold brew, with roasty notes and subtly sweet fruity undertones that added a touch of brightness. The middle had a pop of tea-like sweetness that was mildly earthy and floral. This gave the cold brew an added layer of complexity that is not easy to find.

The finish brought forward fantastic chocolatey notes that balanced bold cocoa notes and sweetness. These chocolatey notes were the perfect complement to the start and middle, as it finished the cup in a more traditional sense.

Characteristics and Flavor Profile:

  • Aroma: Coffee forward with notes of chocolate
  • Body: Medium-light body, mild weight and mouthfeel
  • Start: Roasty, coffee forward with a touch of fruitiness
  • Middle: Refreshing iced tea-like notes with a balance of sweetness and earthiness
  • Finish: Rich chocolatey notes, well-balanced and sweet
  • Sweetness: Medium
  • Would I Order Again: Absolutely, this definitely lived up to the hype.
  • Cold Brew Score: 9/10

Overall Thoughts:

This was a fantastic cold brew. It was unique enough to make it stand out, while still featuring the smoothness and chocolatey notes that make a cold brew delicious. This is a must-try for any cold brew fan out there.

Bro Bears Nutty Bro-Fessor Review:

I can safely say this is the first drink I have ordered that came with a warning. It is marketed for bro-fessionals only, and rightfully so. Bro Bear’s signature drink is a latte with macadamia nut flavor, chocolate, and SIX(!) shots of espresso.

The aroma was unsurprisingly nutty, backed by a powerful punch of roasty coffee. Right away I could tell this wasn’t going to be a typical overly sweet drink without a hint of coffee. Those six shots of espresso helped give the coffee a full body with a good weight and mouthfeel.

The start has rich nuttiness that is sweet and slightly creamy, with a touch of chocolate. The middle brings the espresso forward, with strong coffee notes balanced by enough sweet chocolate to prevent the espresso from being overpowering. The coffee finishes with strong espresso flavor before closing out with a creamy nuttiness and touch of chocolatey sweetness.

Characteristics and Flavor Profile:

  • Aroma: Sweet and nutty with a strong coffee aroma
  • Body: Full body, noticeable weight and slightly creamy mouthfeel
  • Start: Rich nutty notes creamy and sweet with a touch of chocolate
  • Middle: Strong espresso notes balanced with a hint of sweet chocolate
  • Finish: Creamy nutty notes and chocolate
  • Sweetness: Medium
  • Would I Order Again: Yes, this was a unique drink that I am not sure I will find anything similar elsewhere.
  • Drink Score: 9/10

Overall Thoughts:

This is one of the best flavored drinks I’ve ever had. Similar to Gray Fox Coffee(internal link)’s Fox in the Woods, the coffee flavors were noticeable and supported by the other flavors. The bold coffee mixed with the combination of nuttiness and chocolate made this a really well-crafted drink.

Final Thoughts:

Bro Bears is a unique coffee shop offering high-quality drinks crafted by a wonderfully friendly staff.

Their extensive menu has something for everyone, starting with a solid Americano that didn’t stand out but would appeal to most casual coffee fans. The cold brew was exceptional and coffee enthusiasts and cold brew fans would thoroughly enjoy it. The Nutty Bro-Fessor stood out for its uniqueness and caffeine content, and was a great flavored offering for those who can handle it.

It is always great to find a coffee shop that has something for everyone and Bro Bears delivers that balance. If you’re a fan of coffee shops that balance quality and variety, Bro Bears is an absolute must-visit.
