Sacred Cups Bette Buna Review

How’s it going? Hope the coffee is flowing! In this Sacred Cups Bette Buna Review, I’m diving into a single-origin Ethiopian coffee. It brings together rich tradition, vibrant flavor, and an incredible cup. If you’re searching for a coffee that delivers a memorable experience and standout quality, Sacred Cups’ Bette Buna deserves a spot in your rotation. Let’s break down what makes this one special.

The Roaster:

Based in Greenville, South Carolina. Purity Coffee was founded in 2015 with a relatively unique story. Instead of simply roasting great coffee, Purity began when founder Andrew Salisbury started researching coffee’s effects on health. Driven by health issues his wife, Amber, was experiencing, Andrew feared coffee consumption might be the cause.

After reviewing studies from Vanderbilt University’s Institute for Coffee Studies, he learned his fears were wrong. Coffee actually had many proven health benefits. From that point Andrew decided to start a coffee brand where every decision was made from a health-first perspective to maximize the benefits of coffee.

About Sacred Cups:

Sacred Cups was created by Purity co-founder Amber with the goal of transforming coffee from a daily habit into a more mindful experience centered on reflection and connection. This is achieved through exceptional, rare single-origin coffees designed to encourage a more thoughtful experience with each sip. Sacred Cups aims to take Purity’s health-focused coffee to the next level. It blends mindful experience with the physical health benefits of coffee.

Bette Buna is an Ethiopian coffee named after the farm it comes from. The name means “house built on coffee.” The farm was founded in 2020 by current owner Dawit Syoum after he inherited his grandfather’s farm in Ethiopia. Dawit and his wife, Hester, operate the farm with a focus on supporting local communities. They provide employment, mentorship, and structured skill development opportunities.

Similar to the Aponte Inga Medium Roast and Dark Roast, Bette Buna is not marked as organic, as the farm has not certified their beans as organic, however Purity ensures all beans they source meet their rigorous standards for growing and harvesting.

You will recall how much I have enjoyed my previous two Sacred Cups coffees, let’s see if Bette Buna meets these expectations.

When rating coffee I follow the same method of brewing each time. Find out about how I prepare French Press coffee here

Overall Thoughts

Overall, this was an incredible coffee. Each brew method delivered a similar flavor profile. The complexity is flawlessly executed. Transitions occur seamlessly, allowing each note to stand out while remaining balanced.

  • French Press: Smooth with bold flavors and a fantastic complexity.
  • Pour-over: Smooth and unbelievably delicious. The complexity and balance are remarkable, especially in how the flavors layer in the finish.
  • Preferred brew method: Pour-over

This is an exceptional coffee, one of the best I have ever tried. The flavors are bold and well executed to provide a complexity that makes the coffee unique, but not overwhelming.I tried it with my French press first. I was certain it would be my preferred brew method. Boy was I wrong. This coffee is about as close to perfection as you can get in a pour-over.

This coffee would be enjoyable for any coffee drinker. Enthusiasts will appreciate the complexity, while casual drinkers will find it approachable due to its roasty notes and sweetness.

Where to Purchase

You can purchase Bette Buna directly from the Purity website. At $32.00 for a 12oz bag (about $42.66 per pound) the Sacred Cups coffees are on the expensive side, but you can use the code COASTERSNCOFFEE20 to get 20% off of your first order. Much like the Aponte Inga coffees, the price makes this hard to imagine as a daily drinker, but this coffee is an absolute must try at least once.

Conclusion – Sacred Cups Bette Buna Review

The expectations set by my previous Sacred Cups reviews were already high, but Bette Buna somehow managed to exceed them. The flavor profile is fantastic and perfectly executed to make the coffee approachable. This coffee achieves the Sacred Cups mission. It is so good it makes you slow down and appreciate the full experience.
