One Village Ethiopia Coffee Review

A light roast that is certainly not light in flavor!

How’s it going? Hope the coffee is flowing! Today I am going to be talking about another offering from One Village coffee. As you may recall in my review of their Legend coffee (check it out here) at that time I had not reviewed a new One Village coffee in nearly a year. With One Village being one of my favorite roasters, and still frequently drinking Villager (read my review here) I decided not to let that happen ever again! In my French Press today I have One Village’s Ethiopia Natural Coffee.

A natural coffee is different from an organic coffee. Natural refers to the way that the fruit is processed after it is harvested. A natural coffee is processed without water or honey, the fruit is laid out in the sun and allowed to dry. This results in a more flavorful coffee as the bean itself is able to take on more flavor from the rest of the fruit. You can learn more the ways that coffee are processed here.

My local grocery store frequently offers One Village coffee 2 for $20, with these being 12oz bags that comes out to about $13.33 per pound. At that price and with their exceptional quality it is hard to not pick up a few bags. I usually buy 1 bag of Villager (my favorite daily drinker) and then one bag of something new to review. I had good timing last visit as they had One Village’s season Ethiopia coffee in stock, so I couldn’t miss the chance to grab a bag! Very few coffees give Villager a run for its money as my go to everyday coffee, will this seasonal One Village offering be a contender? Let’s find out!

When rating coffee I follow the same method of brewing each time. Find out about how I prepare the coffee I rate here.

One Village Ethiopia Coffee Review:

As it grinds One Village’s Ethiopia has a creamy and slightly sweet fragrance. Once brewed the creamy smell remains but berry-notes take prominence. The coffee does not have much weight and is very light bodied.

From the start this light bodied coffee packs a major punch of flavor, showing the benefits of natural processing. The coffee starts with a bold raspberry-like fruitiness, balancing a sweet and tart flavor profile with a touch of floral notes. The tartness fades completely in the middle and the floral notes become stronger, giving it a sweet jasmine focused middle. The flavor shifts again as the coffee finishes with sweet chocolatey notes.

Overall this is a delicious and truly excellent cup of coffee. I wish it had a little more body, but if that is my only complain I feel like that says just about everything that needs to be said about this coffee. It packs a bold and flavorful profile with nice transitions from a fruity start through to a sweet chocolate finish. The floral middle is well executed and helps this transition take place seamlessly. As per usual with One Village it is smooth and easy to drink. The flavor profile might be a bit complex for everyday coffee drinkers, but I still think this would be a good coffee for anyone. I shared with a few people who all raved about how good it was. This was one of the few coffees that gave Villager a run for its money, but I am still leaning Villager, though this one was close. Maybe it is because I am a creature of habit.

You can find One Village’s Ethiopia Coffee on the One Village Website, along with their other offerings. A few notes here, the first being that this particular coffee is a season roast, so get it while it is still available! You will not regret it. The other note is that the pricing tends to be higher on the website than in stores, so if your local grocery store has One Village coffee, I would recommend looking for it there first. Prices on their website range from $14-$18.50 for 12oz, whereas you can find it for $12 per 12 oz at Wegmans and other grocery stores. Landis usually has it on sale 2 bags for $20.
