How’s it going? Hope the coffee is flowing! Today I am doing my final review of B-Cups Coffee’s core blends. In my French Press today I have B-Cups Coffee’s Colombian Dark roast.
This is my seventh B-Cups Coffee review and it is pretty exciting for me to say I have sampled every coffee by a roaster. Hopefully this is just the first of many to come! The links to my other six B-Cups reviews will be included in a list below, so check them out to learn more about B-Cups and their awesome mission. You can also read more about what drives them here. As we finish up reviewing the core blends from B-Cups let’s see how the Colombian Dark roast stacks up with the rest!
When rating coffee I follow the same method of brewing each time. Find out about how I prepare the coffee I rate here.
B-Cups Coffee Colombian Dark Roast Coffee Review:
During the grinding process this roast has a fragrance of cocoa notes that is not overly strong, but noticeable if you are actively trying to smell it. The brewing process enhances these notes giving a sweet cocoa aroma. What stood out to me the most from this blend was the weight, as it was a heavy coffee with a bold, full body.
At first sip the cocoa notes start the show. This is more cacao and dark chocolate than sweet. This sweetness fades into a roasty middle that appears to be going for smoky notes, but came off more on the burnt and ashy side. This continued into the finish that also tasted overly burnt.
Overall, this was not my favorite of the B-Cups Coffees that I sampled. I have enjoyed most of their blends but this one, to me, did not hit the mark. It came across as an attempt to be roasty and smoky, but I did not get these notes from the coffee. I attempted to use this as an espresso and a base for lattes as well, but even then I preferred the Blissful Blend, which you can read about below, to the Colombian Dark. At $14.99 for 12 ounces (about $19.99 per pound) Colombian Dark is priced identically to the rest of the coffees that B-Cups offers.
That wraps up our B-Cups Coffee reviews, you can find B-Cups Colombian Dark Roast along with all of their other offerings on the B-Cups website. If you are in the south eastern Pennsylvania region you may also find their coffees in your local grocery store, but their distribution in this regard is limited.
