Way Coffee The Original Blend Review

How’s it going? Hope the coffee is flowing! Today I’m reviewing Way Coffee The Original Blend, an Amazon budget coffee that caught my attention mainly because of its price point. At just $7.99, it sits firmly in the value range, so I approached this one with expectations focused more on affordability than complexity or specialty roasting. In this review, I’ll break down the brand background, flavor profile, and whether this coffee is actually worth picking up or better left on the shelf.

The Brand

Way Coffee is sold through an Amazon storefront called “Office Roast,” which functions more like a multi-brand seller than a traditional coffee company. The storefront offers a variety of products such as candy, snacks, coffee, and other office-focused items. Way Coffee’s The Original Blend is the only whole bean offering they have, with their only other coffee listing being a multi-pack of K-Cups.

There is no publicly available information identifying the roaster, sourcing, or company history behind Way Coffee. The website listed on the bag is currently an unbuilt page. This further suggests it is not a fully developed brand. Instead, it is likely a private-label coffee roasted and packaged by a third-party contractor and sold through Office Roast on Amazon.

This makes The Original Blend more similar to the Chocolate Hazelnut and Ethiopia Natural I previously reviewed from Candy’s Coffee Palace (which has since closed down) rather than a traditional roaster.

I mainly picked this coffee up because of the price point. I viewed it as a budget or value option rather than a high-end or micro-roast coffee. So the real question becomes: is this a true value coffee, or just a cheap, mediocre brew?

When rating coffee I follow the same method of brewing each time. Find out about how I prepare French Press coffee here

Characteristics and Flavor Profile:

Grinding The Original Blend did not bring out a strong fragrance, with very faint coffee notes that were barely noticeable. A disappointing start.

BodyFull-body, good weight and mouth feelMedium-full, decent weight and mouth feel for a filtered coffee

Overall Thoughts

Overall, this was not a very good cup. It was drinkable, but not something I would find myself looking forward to going back to. It was relatively flavorless outside of a sharp bitterness and burnt taste. A mild sweetness occasionally comes through, but this is a poorly roasted coffee.

  • French Press: Bitter and burnt with a touch of sweetness. not particularly smooth but still drinkable.
  • Pour-over: Very bitter throughout, while still drinkable it is not a flavorful or overly enjoyable cup.
  • Preferred brew method: French Press

My French Press produced a slightly less bitter and mildly more flavorful cup of coffee, but it was far from a good cup. I would not recommend this coffee to anyone, but if you drink your coffee with a lot of cream and sugar you may be ok at this price point.

Where to Purchase

You can purchase Way Coffee’s The Original Blend on Amazon at a price point of $7.99 for 12 oz (about $10.65 per pound) the price is the only thing appealing about this coffee. If you live near an Aldi grocery store, Simply Nature’s Peruvian or Honduran is a better, and organic, budget coffee option.

Conclusion – Way Coffee The Original Blend

This was not a very good coffee. While it was cheap, that was about the only thing it had going for it.
